When are you good enough?

Communication

It is probably the most complex task that man has ever attempted to do. Technically, it is the transmission of idea, feelings, thoughts and opinions from one person to another, but is that all it is? I believe that communication has a deeper meaning, something which has a great impact on us mentally, sometimes liberating, sometimes suffocating. I think communication is the process of opening up the walls of your mind and letting others in, where the opinions of some are like a flood of sunlight to your thoughts, whereas the words of others are like an actual flood, wreaking havoc inside your head. 

Although everybody claims to know the meaning of communication since they were seven, weirdly enough, hardly any of us have mastered it. It's bizarre how words freeze in our throat, our lips seal shut, our brain feels like it is full of hay, all when it's time to speak, to communicate. Hands becoming clammy, hair rising on the back of your neck, heart racing so fast that you think, "This is it. It's over now." Almost everyone has experienced this. Whether it's lack of self-confidence, lack of self-love, years of insecurities, or just plain reluctance, being put on the spot and being asked to express our thoughts, always brings us back to that awfully awkward first day of 7th grade, where the class teacher would make us go through compulsory introductions.

But despite the problems and the difficulties, even the most hesitant ones of us do it. We communicate. Because that feeling of bees buzzing about in your head, that constant bobbing of your knee, that irritation which seems to have no cure, the apparent weirdness in relations, the loneliness, the paranoia- unfortunately, the only solution seems to be communication; which seems ironical, because where the solution to all our problems lies in communication, the root of all our problems is also communication. 

It's said that our words can either raise all or raze all (sure, no pressure). And while that makes communication all the more scary, it also makes you think of the power you hold over others. So why not make use of this power while you can, instead of regretting it later?
